Chapter 3: Sleep

She was trying to get out of the building as soon as possible due to the shaking and sounds outside, almost passing completely by a room with a table in it. On said table was a massive pile of weapons and various other confiscated equipment, partially sorted, although the piles tended to fall over and stuff. It seemed to be some sort of a processing room, with three additional tables each with weapons, potions and various goods organized neatly on each.

Thankfully her spear and potions were on the larger table in the middle of the room, conveniently alongside one another. If she were some sort of detective wizard, she would probably deduct that whoever was going to sort the items was slacking and simply hadn't gotten around to it when the commotion began.

She grabbed the shaft of the spear and swung it widely as she turned towards the door, thrusting it forward once just to make sure it was actually hers. She could tell from the weight and how she was able to handle it that it was hers, reaching back and grabbing her two potions from the table and slipping them into little pouches made exclusively to house them and similarly bottled materials.

She started running as she left the room, traversing the halls as quickly as she could. She could feel a growing sense of urgency as she looked for the escape, though admittedly she was worried about what she'd find once she exited.

Yui found her entrance with a little bit of high speed running, not seeming to care if she ran into any soldiers as she made a break for it.

Chapter 3: Sleep

Bahamut was about to unleash it's Mega Flare upon Redhold. Most of the guards could only look at the sky in fear and terror. There was a feeling of hopelessness amidst the air, no one could save them now. King and Peach were both still inside the hold, they were trapped along with all the civilians who were trying to flee from the main gates. As some of the screams died out and turned into a prayerful silence, the sound of the Mega Flare charging up became more present in the airwaves.

The silence also allowed everyone to hear a very impractical song. During the time when everyone was frightened and terrified, one particular man was in the middle of the courtyard doing a funny little dance while singing to a silly childish song. He was wearing an orange armor from head to toe and a white cape. "Alrighty then. Now I'm warmed up!" he said. 



He drew his sword, an ordinary looking weapons, from it's sheath and brought it close to his face. He whispered something the sword and as soon as he finished his last word, the Sword suddenly lit up with blue magic energy (much like a lightsaber). Right before the Mega Flare came down, the Orange Knight wrote a symbol in the air with his sword and fired a spell at Bahamut. The spell was spinning as it propelled itself up into the sky. Soon it collided with Bahamut's Mega Flare and...

The Mega Flare collapsed and everyone was in awe of the Orange Knight's powers. But in fact no one was more surprised than himself. "Woah......... I thought it was just going to bounce off.... Oh well.... beginner's luck!" He chuckled.

One of the guards managed to recognized the Orange Knight. "You're Pollux, the 3rd Lion! Sir Pollux has come to save us!"

Soon everyone was cheering and singing praises to Pollux. However he didn't like being praised because he thought it made his head grow bigger. "Aha! Aha! Aha! No need to thank me folks just doing my job as a CITIZEN!" The truth is Pollux was asleep in the lower floors when the tremors awoken him.

Yui exited wherever she was being held just in time to see a flying creature unleash a giant ball of fire towards the citizens of the hold, not even having the time to come to the conclusion that it was a dragon before it collapsed on contact with something.

She spotted the orange knight and looked him over in a quick manner, her attention turning back to the skies as the crowds began cheering. Sure, the attack was dispelled in a quite flashy fashion.

She thought the citizens of the hold were celebrating prematurely as she looked for the creature that had attacked, her mind only just starting to process that it was a dragon.

"Oh wow. TV was pretty accurate, then.." She thought to herself, her right hand grasping the shaft of her spear tightly.

There were several smaller shadows appearing from behind the clouds. Soon it revealed itself to be small Dranglings, who must've somehow followed Bahamut to this world. They flew down to Redhold and began attacking the base and it's inhabitants.



One of the Dranglings dove straight into Pollux, who was at the time gloating with his glowing sword. He didn't seem to be paying attention but was able to quickly dodge the attack by leaping to the side. Then just as the Drangling was passing by him, Pollux cleave the monster's head off, killing it instantly. "Woooo! That was a close one. Welp! That Giant Lizard isn't going anywhere so I guess I'll go beat it's giant ass. See you guys!"

Pollux went to engage Bahamut, meanwhile the Ramoan Forces were busy dealing with the Dranglings. One of the Dranglings landed in front of Yui and suddenly attacked her. But before the Drangling's claws and jaws could reach Yui, a shield was thrown at the Drangling, bashing it's head and halting it's attack.

"Yo-o! Are you alright?" King asked Yui.

"Great you threw your shield now what?" Peach asked King.

"Never needed it anyway-o! Let's go! Hey Red haired girl-o, you better be good with that Spear-o!" King replied.

Yui was standing on the creatures back, tugging at her spear in an effort to remove it. She had crashed down right between the dranglings wings and, unfortunately, got her spear stuck there.

She pulled as hard as she could, her boots pressing into the dranglings back whilst the effort of removing the spear caused the dranglings wings to shift. It was dead already, it seemed, but the wings would occasionally move due to the position of her spear.

She huffed angrily and couched down, grabbing her spear once more and pulling from a lower position, throwing her back into the mix in her attempts to dislodge it.

And dislodge it she did.

Yui pulled the spear from the back of the drangling so quickly that she toppled backwards with the spear, a little blood shooting up from the wound as the girl clumsily rolled down the dranglings tail. It's wings extended for a brief moment before returning to a limp state, kicking up a minute amount of dirt as they came to rest on the ground.

She managed to propel herself from the roll in a sort of mini-jump, stumbling like a fool as she landed alongside the creature and brought a hand up to her mouth, looking off to the side and coughing quietly.

Yui was able to defeat the Drangling with the help of King and Peach, but the danger was far from over. There were more Dranglings flying in from the sky. Furthermore things didn't fair too well with Pollux and Bahamut. From this perspective it looked like Pollux was hacking away at Bahamut but in reality his blade were only doing minor damage against Bahamut's tough scales. So far, Pollux has been agile enough to dodge Bahamut's attacks, using his significantly smaller size to his advantage, he is able to get hits in and step out. But his luck would soon run out. Pollux was already exhausted and Bahamut was getting ready to fire another Mega Flare.

"Woah! Woah! That's kind of cheating isn't it?" Pollux commented. Pollux doubted he could stop Bahamut's attack again like he did before. That spell required a lot of energy and Pollux was already running low. His sword was starting to lose it's glow, it was already glowing more faintly compared to when he first set it a blaze.

Meanwhile, King and Peach were relieved to have beaten the Drangling but more were in fact on the way. The defense of Redhold was only second to the lives of the civilians. "Hey-o! You need to evacuate this place-o! We'll handle these winged-lizards-o!" King told Yui.

"King is right. Please leave this place, the main gates are over that way." Peach added.

King and Peach ran towards the Dranglings to engage them, whilst buying Yui some time to escape.

Yui turned to King and Peach and smiled, giving a thumbs up. But it seemed that they were already on their way to fight off more of the dranglings, giving her time to get away.

Peach had directed her towards the main gates before leaving, which she was thankful for, since she'd probably get lost trying to get out of this place. She considered sticking around to help fight off the dranglings, but she felt that if she stayed King and Peach would be forced to re-arrest her, assuming that nobody else did so.

So she swung her spear outwards and made a b-line for the main gates, keeping her spear at the ready in case she found any more of the creatures in her path.

The gates were now empty and most the civilians have already fled Redhold, but some of them were caught by the Dranglings and were being picked off one by one. The civilians proved to be no match for the winged-reptiles and all of the Ramoan soldiers were busy fending off the multitude of Dranglings attacking the hold.

An old lady was being attacked by a Drangling, she was courageously fending off the beast with nothing but a sack of carrots, something that the Drangling quickly disposed. She was protecting her young grandchild, a baby not older than a year. Without her sack of carrots, the old lady was easy prey to the Drangling. It bit her head off, her decapitated body fell on the ground next to the crying infant. The Drangling took notice of the infant and was poised to kill the baby next.

Yui was making a mad dash for the gate when the sound of a crying infant caught her attention, causing her to slam on the brakes. The metal heels on her boots shot up sparks as she lost traction, sliding briefly across the ground as she started looking around.

It was then that she caught sight of the old woman being disarmed, her bag of carrots proving no match for one of the creatures as she tried to defend the child. She paused, hesitating as she considered running away.

In that brief moment of hesitation the drangling had removed the old woman's head, blood spraying the infant on the ground as the body went limp and slumped to the ground next to it.

Tears welled up in the corners of Yui's eyes, her heart starting to sink as she realized that her hesitation probably caused the old woman to die. She tried to rationalize it to the best of her ability, though at this point Ikas was now taunting her for being "Cold" and "Cowardly" and laughing at her in the darkness.

Trying to rationalize it only made Yui more upset, nearly distracting her from the fact that the drangling had noticed the child. She knew full well the creatures were tough and considered running, unsure if she could even do anything for the child.

And Yui's heart sank further.

She placed her left hand on her chest, her heart feeling like it was going to be torn out of her as she closed her eyes and caused the built-up tears to release themselves, allowing them to roll down her cheeks.

She screamed "Shut up!" in her own mind at Ikas, repeating it over and over as her other self naturally continued to taunt her. But she made up her mind.

Yui shook her head to try to shake the tears off of her cheeks, bringing her left hand up from her chest to wipe away any that remained. She wasn't going to repeat a tragedy like at the pits, allowing herself to become cold and horrible things to happen thereafter.

She slammed the butt end of her spear on the ground, making some noise to get the creatures attention before charging at it. She had no idea if the creature would even pay attention to her, but she was hoping the noise would at least take its attention off of the child.

"This world is just as unfair as Earth.." She thought as she brought her spear up in both hands, ready to attack once she had closed the distance.

The Drangling was distracted by the noise made by Yui's spear and it's attention was diverted away from the crying infant. It turned it's purple head towards Yui and charged her jaw first. The Drangling ran on the ground as fast a galloping horse could, it's claws dug into the grey soil. 4

The Drangling bites off Yui's arm, she's left unconscious on the battlefield. The Drangling takes Yui for dead and leaves her be. Another Drangling lands beside Yui, it stared at simply walked by her thinking she was dead. The two Dranglings approached the child and sniffed the infant before violently biting the baby in half. The two Dranglings shared the infant's body and immediately after eating the child, they ran off to go and attack another civilian.

Time passed and Yui caught glimpse of the tragedy that befell Redhold. Her first glimpse was of people getting eaten by Dranglings. Her next glimpse was of Bahamuth unleashing it's Mega Flare but she never saw it impact Redhold, her last glimpse was at King's face he was speaking and said "She looks like she might not make it-o! We need to hurry up yo-o!"

They had taken Yui north, near Ravenghast. She was carried on the back of a Chocobo, orchestrated by King and Peach. Peach was able to stop Yui from bleeding out with her healing magic but she could not recover her lost arm.
