Chapter 2: The Pit

The Pusong Bato Stables was still being heavily guarded by Snakeqins. They used their sensitive tongues to taste the air for scents. They have heat sensing glands found on their nose that helps them see warm blooded creatures at night. However they do tend to take long naps after eating. Their meal time wasn't due for another 3 hours or so. Perhaps it would be best to try the other guilds first and return here at a later time.

The area around the Freelance guild was only lightlly guarded by the town guard, as the guild tself "protected" that part of the town. A roof walker spoted the nyanquin on the streets, as black clothes tendd to stand out as a shiljhouette, unlike their own dark blue uniform... However, there was no love lost between the guard and the mercenaries, This guard would not mind seeing something happening against his rivals. He would, however, stay in the vincinty should this woman go anywhere else.

The freelance base was structured in a way that each "Suite" acts and lives independently of each other. This includes entrances.  as such there are five entrances to the pentagonaly shaped building.  The main entrance with the freelancer crest, as well as four more entrances each marked with the individual suit.  (OOC Sakuya mistakenly entered the Club entrance hence her walking in on the meeting)

There is also a large well cared for tree,  One of the branches is close to an open window, not close enough for a human to climb through, but A Nyanqin should be able to make it (OOC with a succesfuly Phyisical roll.)   

The young nyanqin was so far unnoticed as she scoped out her target.  Now all she had to do was successfully get into the building.

Maria misjudged and slipped from the tree with a thud.  the sound alerted a couple of spades.  "Hey you over there what are you up to.  Looking up he saw the open window, and had a good idea about what she was up to.  "Hmmp trying to get into the Clubs window huh. I wonder what you want up there.  perhaps you are one of the nasties we heard about."  The spade said with a laugh.  He looked at her he figured he could take her, but he wondered if there was other fun to be had.  As he thought another guard came around the corner.  

"Hey Beetle what was the sound"  looking at her quizzically he said. "Nothing Just a cat falling from a tree."  

Then as the other guard left he looked back at her and said.   "I doubt your Up to any good, But I tell you what, I have good money on the spade team winning.  So here's the deal, you tell me what yer up to, I pay you 100 gil per suite to do it to the other suites 200 not to do it to ours,  I tell everyone I discovered your sabotage just in time, and you tell your boss that you fulfilled the job....unfortunately after you left the sabotage was discovered.  Or you know I can call my buddies and let them know what you were up to and then you spend your days in the spade Dungeons."  The spade laughed leaving her little choice.

Two men finally made their way into the city after almost two weeks long turbulent trip. They were a rare ight, Delvas. And well armed ones at that. One of them wore light clothes and held a staff while the other carried a scimitar, but even that long sword was short for his height. They were following the lead on a wanted criminal of ultmost importance. The white haired devil... Or rather, pink haired now,if their reports were true. The government of Drakestone had no choice but give into the pressure of allowing them free movement within the town for the next three days, so guards would not interfere as they patrolled the streets... Not that it menast that they had to help either. The city was open to all, but when two elite delvan soldiers make their way into the streets, being adverse to it would be a natural reaction. While passing through Skullenport for ressuplies, 2 days ago, they were brifed about the incident within the town market. Those Delva were operating in a team of 4, but they decided to split up in case their target had taken a ship northwards. They would start their search on the currently empty marketplace, not feeling willing to rest. They would question homeless, criminals and those unfortunate enough to be out of their houses about the woman they were chasing... And they would not stop until they could no longer go on.

((OOC: You have the choice of meeting them now at level 45 or in chapter 3 at level 50. ))

The Spade looked at her Quizically and said, "Yeah that might work, Ok Missy.  Here is what you do, Go in through the main entrance the one that shows the four suits in a single shield.  Then you head towards the clerk, collapse and you will be taken to see a Heart healer.  From there you just sneak away, or beat her up.  each suite has two water supplies one in the kitchen and one in the training grounds themselves.  The training grounds will be more difficult due to the fact everyone is training for tomorrow's events.   But everyone should be eating before the games so if you want to just poison the kitchen water I would say it is a good chance they take it."  (OOC Should you take the easier path and poison the kitchen alone once you leave the guild flip the coin for each section to see if the teams were poisoned)  

Beetle said as he pulled a bag of coins.  "I will pay you half now.  Should the teams be poisoned and mine not then the rest will be in a secret hollow under the roots of the tree you were trying to climb."  Beetle said pulling out and handing her 250 Gil.  "Should the spades win come back and there will be another 1000 here for you"  the guard mentioned as he walked away.

The clerk rushed to the girl,  He was worried, she had just walked in and collapsed.  "Hey I need help here this girl just fell over I need a medical Heart here to heal her."  The worried clerk said.  

"No can do the Hearts are all training today they didn't leave anyone in the medical wing.  A passing Club told him.  "Then what should I do?"  the clerk asked distractedly.

"Well The Crone isn't busy tonight,  I could take her up to the crone's  room."  The club said as he looked at Maria.  The Clerk nodded and motioned and the club and him escorted her up the stairs to a strange room. 

The room was full of all manor of plants and herbs,  An old Alfier woman was in the midst of watering the plants humming to herself.  She was far shorter then even most humans, her hands were wrinkled and covered in soil and dirt.  A smell permeated the room, it was a strange mixture of perfume from the flowers, and compost and mulch.  But there was something more the smell of medicines.  In the far corner is a bed and next to it a table with mortar, pedestal, and all the trappings of Alchemy.    

The old woman looks up from her work at the sound of them entering.  "Well what do we have here?  the old woman asks looking quizzically at Maria.

"A Visitor she collapsed in the main entrance, and the hearts are busy preparing for the tournament."  the clerk explained.  He looked woozy and clearly wanted to get out of the strange room.  

"Don't worry I know just what she needs"  the crone said smiling waving the two of them away.

After the two had gone she hobbles to her work bench and humming begins tossing different ingredients into an unlabeled bottle, and moving towards Maria said "yes young one, I know just what you need."  And she tilted Maria's head back and went to pour the liquid down the seemingly Unconscious girl's throat.

The old Lady smiled,  "That is my famous Infusion of several spicy peppers mixed with a potent self made spirit, Guaranteed to get anyone up...especially those pretending to sleep."  

The crone laughed as she took a sip herself.  "As for where you are and who I am.  I assume you had hoped to end up in the Hearts medical facility, unfortunately you ended up in my domain.  I am The queen of Clubs grand matron of the guild and oldest member.  Tho mostly I just make the potions our guild uses these days.  Now I do believe you are the cat that tried to leap into my window earlier.  Sorry about the fall I love the breeze but hate the bugs so I warded the window against entrance." 

The old Crone Laughed then looking up dangerously she asked "So what brings a little kitten into the lair of the madwoman?"  As she awaited her answer she took another long gulp of the burning spicey Liquid and offered it back to Maria.

Maria let out a sigh, last thing she had wanted was to run into an old lady like this. She gave off an eerie vibe to her. Calling herself a madwoman didn't help. She decided to play it straight, "To poison. I was instructed to poison the water of the rival groups. If I did, I wouldn't have to fight in the Pits. That way I could leave and follow after a kid that I left in an acquaintance's care." Maria let out another sigh, "I was debating not poisoning the Clubs since they are one of the only ones I haven't heard bad things about. 'Course there is the Pusong Bato Stables that I've gotta do as well." she shook her head and muttered under her breath just loud enough the old crone could hear her, "Damn it Grams. You just had to teach me to never lie to old ladies, huh~?"

When the training was over J'asha looked extremely displeased. He walked up towards the beaten fighters and growled at them in anger. He turned his glare at the humans, Sylvan in particular, and he had that tells you in his mind he was tearing them all apart with his bare claws. His claws were slowing extending out from his fingertips, he was about to pounce at the humans when all of the sudden, Meera makes her presence known.

"Good! Very good! I will see you all improved very quickly in just a matter of days. Tomorrow you will face Wrozan's finest Pit Fighters and you will crush them."


"I've came to bring you these." 

Meera has her slaves bring out a brand new set of weapons and armor for the Earthlings to use in the fight tomorrow.

((Take note, you will get your hands on these weapons once the Fighting Pits starts. But you may update them to your stats now and use them for STS))

The Old lady looked at her and smiled, "Now there is a good girl.  this is very serious matter poisoning our water.  You could very well end up fighting in the pits for a very long time getting caught in here.   HEHEHE, But don't worry just tell me everything, who sent you here, who is this kid.  I want to know every little detail.  Then I will decide what to do with a kitten.... and don't think about jumping out that window, Wards work both ways you know."  The old lady told her sternly.

This was troubling hearing that one of the other fighter groups was trying to poison the water.   That person would surly pay for this act of hostility against the Freelances.  She calmed herself down and just said.

"Now start at the beginning cutey, be honest and forthright and mercy shall be had, but lie or withhold anything.  Well there are plenty of poisons far stronger then simple sabotage quite painful, and slow acting one way or another during that time I will get the info I want.  But it will not come to that will it.  I don't want to do it, and I am sure you don't want to endure it."  the old lady said with a worried expression on her face.  She preferred to heal the sick, but all who can heal can invariably harm just as well.    one way or another she would learn who ordered her children poisoned.   Silently waiting she drank from her flask once more.




William punched the dirt,  he was mad about not being able to keep up,  he vowed to get stronger.  He looked at Sylvan and Yui who had bested the four cats.  He was thankful to have survived the brutal atack.  A tear rolled down his eye.  What was the point of killing that girl to survive, when in this world his strength was lacking.  

"I have to survive this place, I owe it to you for taking your life."  he said to himself as he looked at his hands.  The euphoria of this world was fading, as he realized how weak he was.  He had never felt this useless not even in his old world, But as he sunk he saw the catlady Meera showing off the weapons he would use in the fights.

"Thank you."  he said looking at the rapier, that looked more like a weapon he would be better suited to.   Standing he picked his wooden blade back up and returned to training.  Now was not the time to doubt himself.  He was the hero of this story, all heroes started weak it isn't a journey if your already strong.  But he did wonder why in his moment of defeat did he think of the girl...did he feel guilty, was it even possible for him to feel guilty he had done what he had to do to survive..he had never understood guilt.  

In nature one did what they had to to make it,  Guilt was a human creation and the things he had done had never bothered him...so why was he thinking of the girl she was weak, she would have died no matter what.  But then he was weak, and he was striving to gt stronger...he was given a chance despite his weakness she never got. And he realized how unfair that was and how easily it could have been him in as the victim and her with the knife.  He laughed to himself as he trained harder, how a simple point of the finger had dictated him as strong.  

"Strength isn't what others tell you you are.  It is what you make of yourself"  William realized as he trained even harder.  his body ached and it was hard to stand.  But he had to become stronger he had to become so strong he could finally determine his worth in the word.
