| Chapter 6: Tangled Fates
Smallport, a small port/town upon which people traveling from the south, heading north usually use. There is nothing remarkable about it, save perhaps those who travel through it.
Marius looked around the small inhabitance with dull eyes, having been here before and knew that there was nothing worth seeing, not that he wasn't keeping his wits about him, as it was in a place much like this that many had met their ends due to carelessness and lack of situational awareness. He was aware that there were people watching him, his silver armor making him stand out from the usual people that pass through.
There wasn't much to see around here, but as he waited for his passage north, he looked at his surroundings, wondering what the future would hold. The Forgestone Mountains weren't exactly on the top of his list of places to be, its sacred nature notwithstanding. There wasn't much for him to gain by being here.

Chapter 6: Tangled fates Quest title: "Oh it's him! The white knight!"
For the past few weeks, the little town of Smallport has had an increase number of customers and passerby's. This was mainly due to the fact that there people from the north had been fleeing from the war.~ Refugees from the various villages opt to leave their homes to swing away from the brutality of the northern conflict; and guess which port they landed on to?
More people, meant more opportunities; good and bad.~ This congregation of people from different races made the small town feel like a cramped up watering hole, filled with various animals all trying to get ahead of the other.~ Yet in the midst of all this chaos~ One man stands out from the rest. An Alferian, covered in a shinning silver armor from head to toe. In a town whose citizens were most of the time covered in oil, dirt, and grease, the Silver Knight was sticking out like a sore thumb.~
It goes without saying that none of the citizens knew that Marius was an Alfeir~ he was wearing a helmet for god's sake. And no one would have thought it because Alfeirs usually stay in their own magical kingdom, away from other people. So~ in that regard, the citizens saw the Silver Knight as this arrogant man who just wanted to show off his shinny and fancy armor, sending a message to everyone that he was better than them.~ Some people don't take too kindly to that kind of attitude.
There was a large number of men in the same vicinity as Marius, who were wanted to teach this arrogant piece of meat a lesson. But~ none of them wanted to cross swords with him. The Silver was sort of intimidating and most of the people in Smallport were cowards.
Aside from Marius~ No one else was looking to go venture north, not with the war and all. This meant that there were no available boats or ships that Marius could board to get to the north. However he might be in luck. There's talk in the town that there is a man, a captain, who just might be brave enough to take anyone anywhere provided that he is compensated handsomely~. This man's name is Gaston. Problem is~ Gaston wasn't on his ship, but the man does have a reputation as a fool and a drunk~. So~ perhaps Marius could try looking for him in the only Pub in town, the Quivering Beast.

Smallport
It was only after a great deal of asking around (and having to deal with all the people running away in fear or glaring at him angrily) that Marius was able to learn about someone who could potentially take him north. He would have taken his helmet off by this point, but he really didn't want to smell what was wafting through the air more than he had to. As much as he might wish at times, he doesn't know a spell that could eliminate those foul odors so he was stuck relying on the thin opening in his helmet which at times could be more harmful than good.
When he finally learned of the captain named Gaston, he tried looking around town for him (as the people he had asked would only tell him he was in town and not where he was). So he ended up at the local tavern, named the Quivering Beast. It was an oddly appropriate name for the small settlement, and while he wasn't too eager to taste its menu, he was interested in finding one of its patrons.
Granted he also had no idea what the man looked like, so he was stuck prowling around the place asking each man he saw if they were Gaston.

Marius was rubbing off on people the wrong way. He made such a bad first impression when he walked into the pub, dressed like fancy dinnerware~ with a silver bucket on his head.~ "How stuuuuuuuuuuuuupid~" one of the guys at the bar commented.~ He looked so ridiculous that some of the drunkards started laughing at Marius as he entered the room.
To make matters worse, Marius was "Prowling" around like a snoopy detective. In a nutshell, people weren't exactly "Pleased" with his behavior.~ No one~ and I mean no one entertained him.~ The moment he tapped on anyone's shoulder or tried to initiate a conversation with him, they all turned their backs to him and grunted.~
"Scum~!" another drunk murmured behind Marius. They didn't like fancy pants, rich folk, or any of that sort around here. This place ain't no showboating lounge. The people here have lost businesses, homes, family; all because of the war.~ The last thing they needed was some dumbass bloke parading his "silver" in front of their miserable faces.~
Eventually though, Marius's noise started reaching to every corner of the Pub, until Gaston himself learned that someone was looking for him.~ Gaston took a glance at the shimmering knight and thought of making money almost instantly. He wiped the booze off of his scruffy beard and pressed his hair to the side of his head.~ Then he got up and went over to Marius with an extended hand for shaking.~
"Hello there~! *hic!* I am Gas~ton~! How can I be of service. *hic*~!?" The poor fellow was drunk as fuck~ He couldn't even stand up straight, how in the world would he even be able to sail a ship.~ He planted one arm on Marius's shoulder for balance, then gave the man a smug and over-confident smile.~

Although he seemed to have found who he was looking for, Marius was far from pleased with the result, and found himself frowning inside his helm at the actions of the drunkard who named himself Gaston. That the others in the bar had acted as they did hardly mattered to him, for all that it made them come across as petty and he'd dealt with petty people before. It mattered little to him what they thought, and he turned attention to the man with his arm around his shoulder.
Marius really didn't want to take off his helmet now, as the man's breath reeked of alcohol, but manners dictated that he do so as a sign of good faith. So he reached up and removed his helm, his white hair whipping about him as his eyes focused on the ship captain.
"My name is Marius, a wanderer in search of passage north, and I heard you might be willing to sail there."

When Marius took that tin bucket off of his head, everyone in the room went "Owwwww...~!" They didn't expect to see an Alfeir, all alone, this far up north. Revealing who/what he truly is didn't intimidate the crowd, in fact in even riled them up even more. Suddenly the Alfeir comments came pouring out from the dirty mouths of the citizens of Smallport.
"You lost boy~!?"
"He must be looking for his mummy"
"Go back to your tree house you dumb freak~!"
"Pointy eared freak~!"
"Go fuck a tree you tree loving aberration!"
"You've got some guts bringing your flat ass all the way up here!"
Gaston tapped Marius on the shoulder and said to him "Pay them no mind my friend *hic*! They're imbeciles~! Sail~!? Heck~! I'd clean your toilet and wash your mum's back for the right price~! *hic*! So where *hic*! Do you wish to go my lord~!? Anywhere's fine so long as it's not up north~!"
Gaston caught a gist in Marius' eye that he's planning to go up North. He wanted to see just how desperate the Alfeir was in getting there, so he uped the price by a lot...
"I can tell*hic*! That you want to go North~ It's brutal up there~! There's a war going on right now.~ Northerners *hic!* Killed Northerners! I'd take you there for 5000 gil~!" this was Gaston's offer to Marius.

Marius frowned. "You must think I'm an idiot," he said with eyes narrowed, completely ignoring the racist comments from the other tavern-goers. It wasn't the first time he'd heard that and it certainly wouldn't be the last, not that it made it any more distasteful every time he did.
"And if you think I'm stupid enough to believe that that is the cost of traveling north than I suppose you don't want my business after all. And here I was willing to pay 3,000 gold, too. Ah well, I suppose I'll try my luck elsewhere." And, turning around, made his way toward the door, his helmet back on his head. He didn't care to be played the fool by some drunk sailor who thought anyone with fancy armor has no sense of business.

Marius let his pride get in the way of his goal, a typical Alferian behavior. Alferians are one of the most, if not the most, egotistical race on this planet. It shows with Marius's behavior towards other people, his aversion to anyone that's not his kin or race.~
He left the only man in Smallport who could take him to the North, the only one dumb enough anyway.~ Rain started to fall~ It was the rainy season after all, this was expected to happen at least 2 to 3 times every 3 days.~ Rain also meant bad weather and bad weather meant no sailing. Pitiful little Marius just wanted to cross the river~
Marius could choose to travel by land. There's a bridge over at North Bridge that leads north, or he could travel just a few miles to the east to find a river crossing. That path thought would lead him to Vhetlaug, which is probably a warzone by now.~ If he wasn't going to sail, then those were his better options.~ If only he had one of them flying ships, like the Empire had.
If he was truly desperate, he would steal one of the long boats and paddle his way up north. It's stupid~ but desperate people tend to do stupid things~ Which brings us to the question~ What the was a silver knight doing so far away from his home~? Why does he want to go up north? People are dying up there, villages are being burned down and all sorts of crime are being committed in the name of war.~ The northern Wrozan is no place for a lone Alfeir.~ He should just go home and abandon his noble quest.~

Stepping outside unfollowed was a bit disappointing, but then again, expecting a small town sailor to understand when he's actually being offered something. Hmph, idiot. Oh well, he'd try his luck elsewhere. Walking through the town he thought about where he could go, before turning to the east. If he couldn't go north, he'd find other battlefields to engage in.
With his destination firmly in mind, he began the journey to Vhetlaug, passing through nearly empty streets on his way through town. Marius wished he could have secured passage to the north, but that didn't happen. And as the captain apparently decided holding on to his bluff was more important than a paying passenger he lost out on potential business.
His eyes turned to the darkening sky and frowned. He could walk through the night, but as he well knew, there were powerful creatures that liked to stalk the land when the sun goes down. As he set forth from Smallport, he wondered what creature would happen across his path this time.

Chapter 6: Tangled fates Quest title: "Oh it's him! The white knight!"
Rain, Winds, Storm~
A bright flash streaked across the dark cloudy sky, followed by thunder that seem to crack the air. Each cracking boom made Marius's pointy ears tingle. The untamed power reverberated and echoed across the land. Storm brews on the cold horizon with winds that scream more like howls. Tree bend and moan in wrath enough to scare even the Gods.
Thick and icy rain fell like stones. The heavy downpour usually washes the streets of Smallport, but this one came with ferocious winds that littered all kinds of debris on the street. Water gurgled down the stone streets and the sewers overflowed.~
Massive waves as high as 100 feet trashed against the wave barriers around the port. This was a very serious storm. Eligor will have no choice but to seek shelter until it was over. Luckily for him there was an Inn just a few blocks down. He should hurry before the conditions outside gets worse.~

Marius frowned at the conditions surrounding him, not pleased at all with his present environs. Personally he felt someone was out to get him, as there could be no other reason for the great storm that rose up in greeting as soon as he left the inn. He wondered if it occurred because the gods had realized he wasn't where he should be or heading where he should be and that he should change course, but (while he didn't dismiss it entirely) did put the thought aside for the moment in favor of finding a path out of town... which he immediately discovered he didn't remember well enough to navigate in a massive storm, whereupon he decided it would be better to wait for it to pass inside the one building he could find right now, the inn.
He scowled at the thought of the inn's patrons, and knew that they would probably kick him back out or even bar the door to stop him from getting in, just so they could "get back at the rich, snooty Alfeir". Honestly the maturity of some people...
There was something to be said for resembling a remark, as he was rich and snooty, but you'd never hear him admit to that, the second more than the first as he didn't like having stereotypes applied to him, no matter how apt they might be.
So it came to pass that he made his way back to the inn and pounded on the door, no words passed his lips as he stood there, waiting for someone to let him in or declare he had to find shelter elsewhere.

Chapter 6: Tangled fates Quest title: "Oh it's him! The white knight!"Marius got really soaked in rain water. It took the establishment a while before they could answer the door, it was pretty busy inside considering the situation outside.~ Suddenly, just as the silver knight was waiting on the door, a lightning bolt crashed down on a post located six meters away from Marius. The post snapped into two and one side fell on the street while the other threatened to fall down on an unsuspecting home.~ Inside the home was a family of three~ A mother, a father, and a sweet little innocent baby.Surely if Marius tried he could stop the pole or at least change it's direction before hitting the house. But he doesn't have to~ In no way is he obligated to aid these humans.~ They despised his kind and saw him only as an arrogant pointy eared freak.~ - Quote :

It was with horror that Marius watched the pole fall toward the house with its inhabitants none the wiser of the impending doom. With a snarl, he charged through the rain, intending to save the family. Whether they hated him or not had no bearing on the situation, as lives were on the line and doing nothing would be unacceptable. So with all his considerable strength he pushed the pole out off its intended course and into the space between the house and it's neighbor.
He breathed heavily, the pounding water echoing inside his helmet as he stood there, watching the storm building yet strangely unconcerned about it at the moment, as he stared at through his visor at the disaster he just averted. He only hoped he had enough in him to deal with the inn's patrons as he turned back to the building and walked back toward it after a few more moments.

Chapter 6: Tangled fates Quest title: "Oh it's him! The white knight!"The family saw what Marius did for them unfortunately before they could thank him, a massive wave hit Smallport causing a raging flood of water to sweep the streets. Marius was the only person outdoors when this happened. He got swept away by the strong current and was carried out to sea.
His armor was too heavy for him to swim in, Marius was sinking and fast. Luckily for him he was able to grab on to a wooden pole and use it as a flotation device.~ The conditions at sea were not very good though. Marius had to endure being trashed around by gigantic waves and punishing winds carrying debris. No normal person could survive this kind of situation.
A solid piece of log drifted towards Marius and hit him square in the face, knocking off his helmet. The silver helmet sank into the sea floor, forever lost.~ Marius also suffered a concussion but he remained conscious throughout the endeavor.~
Out of nowhere a rope lassos around Marius's body.~ Then he was pulled on boat a ship and laid down on the deck.~ The man who saved him was none other than Gaston~ He was staring down at Marius laughing~!
"HAHAHAHA~! I knew you'd do something stupid~! Now you owe me 5,000 Gil~!" Gaston said to the pointy eared Alfeir.
Drunk as fuck~! But the man was an excellent sailor. Gaston was able to navigate through the bad weather and sail north towards the War torn city of Rockfell~!
(Hey Van~! Make a post before we go to Rockfell~!)

Coughing furiously, the armored Alfeir blearily tried to focus on the voice of the person speaking but the concussion was making it difficult to concentrate. It seemed while he had saved the family he had been unable to get himself to safety in time. He felt a small bit of gratitude to the sailor who fished him out (not that he'd ever admit to it), but the joke(?) about the payment seemed inappropriate to him at that time.
Marius knew trying to speak in his present condition would yield poor results, so when the man spoke all he could do was narrow his eyes (or rather attempt to, as the concussion made it look more like a squint than anything else especially with the water flying everywhere).
Sighing mentally, the Alfeir wondered where they were going but as said before was in no condition to ask so resolved to merely wait out the journey.
