Name: Durzan
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Race: Delva
Character Appearance and Personality: Being a Delva, Durzan is much taller than the average human, nearing seven feet tall. Being somewhat young, Durzan is still rather lean and slender in build compared to other Delva. Like most Delva, Durzan has ghost white hair, which he keeps short for combat. His skin is a pale silver, still smooth and unblemished, and his eyes are a brilliant violet color.
For all Delva, their horns are a matter of pride. Durzan keeps his well groomed, polishing them and keeping the points sharp. Durzan's horns curve out and downwards, similar to a ram's horns but with less of a curl. When in full battle dress, Durzan covers the tips of his horns with sharp metal caps.
Character History: Durzan was raised as part of a war-brood for clan Dragthrall, a generation of Delva children all taken from their parents to be raised as elite warriors. While many think this is a cruel and tragic part of his past, Durzan does not. Though Durzan lost his parents, he gained over a hundred siblings. They all ate together, trained together, bled together. The idea of a war-brood is to raise a company of soldiers who trust one another completely and are totally in sync.
That said, Druzan and his war-brothers and sisters were still allowed to have fun. In fact, it was encouraged so that they would all bond. Some of Durzan's fondest childhood memories were of the summer when they would all play war games in the valley. Durzan knew friendship, he even knew love. The War-brood was his family, his home.
Being raised as part of a war-brood was a great honor, but it also meant that great things were expected of you. As he grew into adolescence, Durzan was dismayed to be considered one of the smallest of the boys. In fact, there were girls in the war-brood that were bigger and stronger than Durzan. At firs this led Durzan to develop a complex over his size and build, driving him to train and work harder. He wasn't the strongest of his war-brood, so he strived to make up for his weaknesses by improving his technique and studying tactics.
In time, Durzan became known for his cunning, earning him the nickname "Aconite" among the war-brood (a poisonous flower, that was purple like his eyes). No longer obsessed with being the strongest, Durzan was satisfied that he had found his own way to be useful to the war-brood, and would often counsel others to do the same.
By the time he and his war-brood were old enough to see real combat, Durzan had become one of the leaders of his war-brood. He was part of a small clique of the most talented, most trusted, and the most beloved within the war-brood who the others looked to for guidance. Once they were two hundred or so children but had since grown into a full company of well-trained, deadly, and eager Delvan warriors.
For their first real battle, The war-brood was commanded by their clan's war-chief Rakkul to settle a land dispute with another clan. It was something they had trained for their whole lives. While the initial horror of combat was not something they could have prepared for, Durzan and his war-brood endured. They emerged victorious, though they suffered the loss of several of their war-siblings. However, this only inspired them to grow stronger and to do even better next time.
Over the next few years, Durzan and his war-brood would fight in about a dozen or so similar battles and skirmishes. Around the time he turned twenty, Durzan fell in love with his war-sister Bula. It was again, common for such a thing to happen and was not discouraged. After all, they believed that warriors would fight even harder if their loved ones were with them. Bula was taller than Durzan and stronger than he was, but she loved it when Durzan would sing to her. Durzan, in turn, found beauty in Bula's strength. Together, they dreamed of the glories they would earn in battle and the honour they would bring to their clan.
Then came that cold and brutal winter. A blizzard could be seen coming in through the valley. Several younglings had gone ice-fishing earlier and had not returned. Bula and Durzan went out looking for them, splitting up to cover more ground. Even after the blizzard was in full force, Durzan did not give up his search. Durzan continued searching the valley, shouting for the children until he lost his voice, but as the sun began to set Durzan knew he had to turn back.
He found her the next day. Bula had found the younglings out in the middle of the frozen lake. With nowhere to take shelter, Bula had gathered the children under her cloak and had shielded them from the blizzard. The children had all survived, but Bula's body had been frozen stiff. For the first time in his life, Durzan wept.
In the present, Durzan and part of his war-brood were awarded the honour of joining war-chief Borgon Garam's expedition to Worzan. The elders of the allied clans had tasked Borgon with retrieving an ancient relic of the Derval known only as the 'Devil's Jewel'. Durzan was excited by the idea of voyaging to an entirely new world, a whole new continent that was full of opportunities for him to win glory in battle.
