| Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings
Vhetlaug The Cursed Blade
The day has finally come. It took nearly four days to get everything in order. The citizens were moving at a slower rate than what Clayden has hoped for. But after nearly a week, the citizens of Vhetlaug were finally ready to embark on their journey east, to the Frigid. The Frigid's commander has already been informed and he's agreed to his brother's request. It will be a long journey and a slow one too. Most of the citizens do not have wagons or any form of mount. Also, most of them are elderly women, children, and handicapped individuals.
After gathering all the men who can wield a sword and fight, Vhetlaug's forces rose from 400 to 700. It was still small but it will have to do. 200 of these men will be assigned to protect the caravan. They've also received word from Haremfield, who will send 3 warriors to escort the Caravan. 3 might be a small number, but if we're talking about Haremfield women, 3 is more than enough.
The men have also fortified Vhetlaug's walls, though it still needs more work, the walls were now strong enough to withstand a small army. A few more days and it will become even more formidable, but will it be enough to stop the advancing forces of Baron Geisler.
Word of Kiko Matos' death spreads through the North like wildfire. With Baron's main adversary dead, it will only be a matter of time before his forces take over Rockfell and march east. The remaining houses don't stand a chance against Baron's army if they stay divided. But Lord Clayden was a stubborn old man who refused to give up and to ask his neighbors for help defending the city. He could've asked Haremfield for more fighters to defend Vhetlaug, but instead he hired mercenaries from Haremfield to escort his people to the Frigid.
Time has come for the civilians to leave the city. Lord Clayden bids them all a safe trip and sees them off at the city's gates. There was no telling, whether or not Baron will have Ashborne intercept the caravan. But it was to be expected. Should that time comes, Clayden hopes that the people assigned to defend the Caravan will be successful.

| Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings
Vhetlaug The Cursed Blade
For days the people prepared to leave their city, the air grew tenser for they knew the more days pass the more Baron could inch closer barring their escape. Hearing about the death of Kiko dampened everyone's spirits including Sylvan, He had planned to go to Rockfell to let them know about Liza's death after escorting the people to safety, could it be that he won't be able to find anyone there at all? Sylvan shook his head, it was a different matter for a different time. What he had right now was the duty to protect the people, he wanted to stay and fight with the others in Vhetlaug, but he was requested of Lord Clayden to see the people, a task he understands the importance of as well. So while the people did their own preparations so did he.
He had chosen to upgrade his potion bottle, which had saved him more times than he can count, even though the one who gave him the thing was his former slaver and oppressor, Meera. He had chosen to enhance the healing liquid it could contain for the long journey as he did not know when and who will need it during the long journey to the east, to where the Frigid was. It was their chance for sanctuary, but it wasn't without risk. He had also purchased a chocobo to make travelling easier, if they were to be attacked by men or some wayward beast. It would make maneuvering the long line of refugees easier. He felt relieved to have taken the job, as his preparations cost more money than expected.
And now they were ready, the sun was yet to rise and yet they had already started to leave. Every second from here on out would be more critical. Sylvan was on the right of the long line, watching the people as they walked passed him. The Lord of the City, Clayden had seen to it personally of their leave, he gave the old man a nod to show his respect before having his mount walk with the people.
OOC: Requesting Admin/Mod for +3 Potion Purchase and Chocobo Purchase during the timeskip. Thanks

| This thread has been transferred to Heartrock outskirts.Chapter 5: Serpents and KingsHeartrock OutskirtsThe Cursed BladeFive days has passed since the caravan of civilians left Vhetlaug. By now, Vhetlaug's defenses are strong enough to withstand a siege from a medium sized army, but still not enough against Baron's or Ashborne's army should they decided to attack the small city. The Caravan had just passed Heartrock village two days ago and are now traveling on the open fields. The open fields stretches from Heartrock to Silenthall. True to their word, Haremfield sent 3 finest warriors to escort the caravan. Khelsie or house Harte, Lhena of house Slate, and Tarla or house Drake, respectively. Meanwhile, the sword all through out the journey, the cursed sword never stopped plaguing Sylvan's minds with evil thoughts. The sword wanted more blood and it was calling for Sylvan to slaughter all the civilians. | |

| Heartstone Outskirts...
Lord Aburrido Tyde and his forces, 3000 strong, are headed west to Rockfell, to layeth the smack down on Rockfell's other end. On their way to the castle he and his mountain chocobos steered clear of the dreaded Izaria Tower, passing through the Valley of Heroes and entering the open fields.
In order to make sure that they weren't going to be intercepted, and to prevent the thought of Rockfell running away to the East, Tyde sent scouts to check the open passage. Luckily, there weren't any Rockfell armies there. The scouts however, spotted a traveling caravan. There were 4 of them and their leader approached the group
[Ashborne Scout]: "Greetings. May I ask who you are and where you're headed?"
...the scout inquired on the traveling group after running to meet them. He didn't see anything suspicious, just a group of people moving in a large group seemingly civilians, with some protectors. Still it wouldn't hurt to ask. He remained walking along with them while waiting for an answer.
Being a religious man himself he wondered if there was a priest in the group. The Ashborne Scout had a wife and a son back home in Ashborne, so he wanted to ask for a blessing from the gods. He only wanted to come home safe after the war. In his pocket was a small wooden chocobo he carved from wood, a present he intends to give his son when he gets home from the siege.
[Ashborne Scout]: "I also wish to ask a priest to bless me so I can go home safe after the battle of Rockfell."

| Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings Heartrock Outskirts The Cursed Blade Their journey was long and uneventful but still the guards had their wits about them, paranoia honing their focus and it made them very awake and alert of everything. However Sylvan had two troubles up his sleeve, other than guarding the people he was also pestered by the craving he has once again. In his mind, or deep within him he wanted to kill them than defend them. He viewed them as unprepared even now, some of them constantly whined for rest when it could kill them all and it grated on his nerves. He thought he should do a clean-up, and save those who really wanted to be saved and those who mattered. His hand clenched the reins of the chocobo mount he was in. His eyes watched them, and yet inside him he was in turmoil. These thoughts that he had, why was it only appearing now? He spent the first few days and months with a healthy mindset only killing when needed despite his adversity to it. But now, he could feel his bloodlust well up, all the regressed negativity not just only in this world, but even all the negativity back in his world. He was supposed to be empty or feel empty and yet the surge of emotions he felt was tumultuous and it confused him, he thought he had mastered it or had become hateful of his own life to the point he didn't care about anything. And yet there it was the urge to raise his sword and just cut them down one by one. He grit his teeth, he wanted to stab himself with his own sword. Was he truly this dark and ugly in this inside? Was he more of the beast than the Qins and his very own father? It frustrated him so. As he was finally done with entertaining such dreary thoughts he saw something in the distance, a cluster of people. He pulled the reins and hit the side of the chocobo with his legs and then had it run forward towards what seemed to be a commotion. Sylvan remained silent as he listened to them speak., the sword still whispering its desires to him with him mistaking it as his own. Apparently these group of 4 soldiers wanted to know where they were from and if they had a priest with him. Sylvan spoke immediately while the others were dallying around the issue.
"We will head to the east, to the Frigid, to avoid the damn war" While he held back his irritability and no non-sense attitude, his reply was till rather curt and cold, he never was one for speaking most especially when not in the mood. His mood soured further after knowing that the soldier he was speaking to was a father.Â
Sylvan's memories of his father flashed briefly in his mind's eye and it wasn't pleasing. It had only served to aggravate his dark thoughts further, and made him answer once again, in a more unfriendly tone.
"Also we don't have any priests, sadly. God does not exist here, so we are left to our own."Â

| The second Ashborne soldier laughed at Sylvan's nihilistic answer. Unlike his commander he was not quite so religious. He looked at this young man Sylvan, noting there was some wit in him. A trait that brought him some kind of laughter in spite of the situation.
[Ashborne Scout 2]: "Ffff, I don't believe in gods. When we die there's nothing on the other side. All those magic, those shit, they're only here in this world. Nothing awaits us in the next."
[Ashborne Scout]: "Still it would be good to receive blessings. I have a kid to return to."
[Ashborne Scout 2]: "I've fathered children but I really don't care about them. They got their own lives to live. As far as I'm concerned they're just bastards from different mothers. I will enjoy my life."
The 2nd scout's words about siring many bastards and not taking any full responsibilities were audible to Sylvan. Meanwhile the other two scouts were eyeing the crowd for women especially pretty ones. The road to the war is exhausting and boring and it would aid them a lot of there were woman they could use for entertainment.
[Ashborne Scout 3]: (to Sylvan) "Ey since you're quite the smart-arse better yet tell me if there are ladies here who can give us a good time. We'll pay good Gil for a cunt we can stick our cock into."
[Ashborne Scout 4]: "Yeah I hope there's some. As young as 14 or as old as 40. We'll take 'em as long as they look great. And we promise to be gentle"
[All Scouts]: "Hahahahahahahahaha!"

| Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings
Heartrock Outskirts
The Cursed Blade
The dark swords whisper went silent as if it was goading Sylvan, it made him hear the conversation of the lecherous scouts, about wanting women. The scout who was religious laughed with his team, laughing because of the joke or because he intends still to find a whore despite already having a child was different. He did not know which of the two reasons it was, but he did not like it. This is what he hated with religion, people act so holy that perhaps their god would see past their hypocrisy if they worship him enough and be good only to those who they deem worthy. Sylvan held back a scoff he felt was coming even though he was at his patience end.
But what got to him the most was the other scout who had a lot of children but did not take responsibility for it, just because they wanted some fun, someone had to pay for it, namely a woman and her would be child. It took all of his willpower to hold back his hand that was already holding the sword beneath his cloak. He wanted to cut them up so badly, but it would be disadvantageous for their caravan should he give in. He still did promise to protect the people in place of the hunters who died because of his indecision. He took a silent deep breath and spoke his head held high.
"Sadly we can't offer you any woman, the people in the Frigid would be displeased if they knew it happened." Sylvan looked to the Scout who was a father, his eyes had hidden venom and disappointment in his gaze. "Perhaps you can find your priest someone else? We're only mere refugees"

| The 2nd scout looked at Sylvan quite annoyingly. He didn't like what the boy had to say about not offering them any women. Especially when he knew Sylvan wasn't really in charge.
[Ashborne Scout 2]: "Alright little man how about your mother then? 100 Gil?"
The scout did affirm his intention by taking out a bag of 100 gil. He said this as a response to what Sylvan said, that they had no women to spare and they were headed to the Frigid. He didn't really care.
[Ashborne Scout 3]: "Boy that was a bad joke. Nobody should make mother jokes..."
[Ashborne Scout 2]: "The fucker deserved it for being such a smart ass. He better give us women or I'll find his mother among these people and fuck her around in front of him."
[Ashborne Scout]: "Guys, please. He's just a boy leave him be."
[Ashborne Scout 2]: "(to Sylvan) You just a squirt of your father's seed inside your mother's womb and you talk like that huh? Why I oughta wipe your mouth into my ass..."

Laughter. Hair raising, manic laughter was his answer to the insults thrown his way. Sylvan's shoulder's heaved and his head tilted up from laughing a few seconds before sarcastically clapping his hands slowly. He moved his chocobo closer to the second scout, before he spoke.
"And I thought this would be a boring journey to the Frigid!" Sylvan's gaze was colder now, one the scouts would notice was murderous if they had been fighting long in war. A gaze that would make a man know he would die. "You crack me up old man, very much so. I'd rather be a smart-ass than be someone like you who needs to pay gil to get laid. I say I got the better end of the bargain. Yours is a face that only his mother would love mate."
Sylvan looked at the man and he let out a smug smile, but his gaze wasn't smiling. Perhaps his sword would feed after all. He moved his cloak back making it appear as if he was simply fixing his posture, but then he showed them his hands were already on both the hilts of his two swords while holding the reins.
"Don't forget, you're also a squirt of your father's seed, but then again. But given the chance to listen to  how crass you speak, your mom would've probably been a whore. The real question you should probably be asking me is 'where's my daddy?' " Sylvan mocked the scout.
"I can go on all day making fun of you, but are you gonna move along or shall i continue on? and just maybe remove you all from here myself."

*CHOICE EVENT*
The Cursed Sword is feeding from Sylvan's Anger. He can choose to give into his hate and kill the scouts or return to the caravan and just let the whole thing go.

| Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings Heartrock Outskirts The Cursed Blade "On a sidenote" Sylvan added this time his tone was flat and cold. "I guess I'll just remove you myself" Choice: Kill the scout/s With foreboding silence, Sylvan drew out the Stone sword. His eyes had a glint of murderous intent, he may have won the contest of insult against the scout, but he had lost control of his emotions and had given in to the sword's craving and want. It wasn't easy as Sylvan hated people like that scout, crass with nary a hint of intellect in him and only knew how to mouth off and when problems bigger than the cuss word they know come, they only know how to run or fight and then they wonder why their life isn't well off and only know how to curse and mooch off those who survive life using their skills. In a heartbeat, Sylvan moved like a blur. A second he had just alighted from his chocobo, the next second he was already infront of the second scout who was holding a bag of gil. His eyes narrowed and then he swung the sword in an arc, aiming for his crotch. He would cut away the man's root of pride and joy, because he did not know how to take responsibility and only talk big, before aiming to kill the others that were closely around him.

| You chose violence:
The second scout didn't see it coming and was quickly killed by the surprise attack mounted by Sylvan. The blade tore through the man's crotch and instantly he fell of his steed and bled to death. His chocobo ran away in fear. The other chocobos were also bewildered but they still had riders and thus they were calmed down immediately.
An elderly man, traveling with the civilians, saw the gruesome attack and was stressed out. He quickly suffered a heart attack and died thinking that the soldiers were going to capture them.
Meanwhile Scouts 1,3 and 4 saw what happened and turned their anger on Sylvan immediately. They weren't here to fight but it was an intimidating gesture on Sylvan's part. Scout 3 quickly departed to summon the rest of the army, requesting for backup.
The first scout and the fourth were now going to battle Sylvan.
TO SYLVAN: The choice is yours fight or flee.

| Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings Heartrock Outskirts The Cursed Blade Choice: Fight
Flicking his wrist, Sylvan moved the stone sword in a circular fashion to parry any who would attack him, but none did, smirking the raven haired youth pulled out his other sword and this time pointed on the scout that he wasn't looking at. Sylvan's hatred was immense and unstoppable, he walked slowly towards the body of the second scout raised his right foot and then smashed it with such force that was like a crushed watermelon afterwards. "And there goes your errand boy" He says coldly to the two that were remaining to fight him, "Let me guess, you'll report that there was an enemy even when it was you guys who started everything" Sylvan scoffed as he moved in a circular fashion, his vision on the enemy infront of him and his other sword extended towards the other enemy he could not see. "Pathetic, a part of your group dies and you run and tell whoever the fuck is in charge. But when he was mouthing off you did nothing. And now you send a runner just because you fucked up" Sylvan laughed manically insulting both his opponents.

| The two scouts were reduced to nothing but blobs of devastated flesh and armor, their remains were splattered all over the fields. The Vhetaug travelers were impressed with Sylvan's defense of them, but they suddenly became scared of his power. They heard the way he talked to the scouts, and they saw how he looked at them. He was indeed very strong but he had that bit of evil streak that he can't hide from them. They thanked him, but the at the same time they grew scared of him.
The last scout who fled reached his main army and began reporting what had happened. He did not know if his two other friends were still alive or if they had won. The commander was convinced that Sylvan's troupe is actually a renegade force trying to circumvent them and bother them from behind.

| Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings Heartrock Outskirts The Cursed Blade Sylvan landed on the blood soaked snow that came from the puddle of what counted as human remains of both scouts that faced him. His stomach turned at the sight of what he had done to the two. Was he that powerful in the first place? He couldn't remember, he had not meant to destroy their bodies like that, he had it in his mind to kill them, but not turn them into an unrecognisable mess. Sheathing both swords, he could feel the people's gaze on him. Afraid, and he could feel it from where he stood. He put his palms together, bowed his head and even though he didn't know of any gods in this world, he prayed for at least one soul. The scout who was a father but had to die by his hand because of his comrade's irresponsibility. Deep inside he knew, he would be doing this for the people he was escorting or wouldn't be able to if he dies. A grim prospect, but it was reality. He hopped back into his chocobo and rode back into the line of refugees that seemingly stopped to gawk at him. "Get moving people! We need to get to the frigid!" | |

| The older citizens quickly picked up the pace. They knew Sylvan was right. One of the scouts fled and he might call for backup. But with so many of the civilians just moving on foot, the cavalry would soon catch up, and cut them down like wheat.
One of the people, a concerned lady in her middle years, was curious where Sylvan was from and who he was. She remembered the disparaging words uttered by the scout before he was skewered by the youthful warrior.
[Woman]: "Pardon me but may I ask, where your mother and father are? Are you alone?"
The woman really felt bad about Sylvan, seeing him as a young man who was awakened to a life of violence so early. If there was only a way she could help him, to repay him for saving them from those dreaded Ashborne scouts.

| Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings Heartrock Outskirts The Cursed Blade Sylvan was more alert now, aware of the consequences of what he had done, but he would not run. No, let the army come, damn if they do, damn if they don't. Whenever people would be in the brink of tripping, Sylvan would immediately lower himself to be able to pull them by their arms immediately. Their pace was faster now as even the people knew what could come. A part of him cursed himself for giving in to his anger, but a part of him wanted to accept it, he had to be a man. It was a his own mess, he had to clean it up. His eyes would scan the area from time to time, looking for stragglers and or potential ambushes, it was during one these moments he was scanning when a woman spoke to him asking him of his old life. Sylvan made no eye contact as he cannot be distracted, not again. But he answered her, they already had reason to fear him. He did not want them seeing him as a monster, just like them he was human, and as a human he wanted to protect them. "I've been alone ever since I could remember" He said as if it was a simple matter of fact. "This journey is my duty alone". Then he looked down at her from his mount as he finished scanning the area. "But rest assured, I know what I am doing, that's why it's best you keep walking ma'am, the farther we go, the safer we are" | |
